Six women in Greek Tragedy 2025
Step into the birthplace of drama for a powerful open-air experience that revives the voices of six iconic heroines from ancient Greek tragedy. Set in the leafy garden of the Athens University History Museum—tucked beneath the Acropolis—“Six Women in Greek Tragedy” is a stirring theatrical synthesis of works by Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. Directed by Panos Angelopoulos and performed in English, this production unites Medea, Electra, Antigone, Hecuba, Iphigenia, and Alcestis in a timeless conversation about sacrifice, justice, and catharsis.
The performance is enriched by “Ancient Greek Comedy & Tragedy Mask”, an interactive exhibition by artist Yiannis Zymianitis. With over 1,200 handmade masks to his name, Zymianitis offers a rare glimpse into the ritual and artistry of ancient theatre, complete with an engaging English-language tour and audience participation.
This unique summer event blends theatre, visual art, and myth in one of Athens’ most atmospheric settings.
