Oedipus by Robert Icke
Sophocles' ancient tragedy gets a breathless modern makeover at Onassis Stegi, returning for a limited run after a completely sold-out season. Acclaimed British director and playwright Robert Icke resets the classic myth on election night, transforming the story into a tense, fast-paced political thriller. We find Oedipus as a charismatic politician on the verge of a landslide victory, completely unaware that his public image and private life are about to unravel in real time.
The production is performed in Greek, but non-Greek speakers can catch the play with English surtitles during the Sunday performances on 22 November and 6 December. Keep in mind that the show carries an age guidance of 15+ due to mature themes, and the staging features the sudden sound of a prop gun.
