AFALES | NAVELS: Danae Stratou
Presented inside the Service Yard by annexM, the visual arts wing of The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron), AFALES | NAVELS is a site-specific exhibition by artist Danae Stratou. Curated by Alia Tsagkari and dedicated to the memory of Anna Kafetsi, the project explores the delicate relationship between humanity and the natural environment through themes of gravity, time, water movement, and lunar cycles.
At the heart of the show are three large-scale installations, including an elliptical disc of raw salt tracing the Moon's orbit, a light sculpture synchronised in real time with lunar phases, and the piece Breathe (2000), on loan from the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST). Complete with immersive soundscapes incorporating poetry and sculptural studies of a pebble from Ithaca's Afales Beach, the exhibition creates a contemplative intergenerational dialogue across the venue's industrial outdoor spaces. It also serves as a perfect cultural pitstop before or after heading out to explore the surrounding neighbourhood of Ambelokipi and Mavili Square.
