Car-Free Athinas Street 2025
For the second year in a row, Athens marks World Car-Free Day by closing one of its busiest streets to traffic. This September, Athinas Street will be at the heart of the city’s celebration. For 24 hours, from Saturday evening through Sunday night, the historic commercial avenue between Evripidou Street and Monastiraki Square will transform into a lively pedestrian zone bursting with culture, creativity, and community spirit.
Step away from the usual city rush and discover a different Athens — one where you can move freely, enjoy open public spaces, and connect with the city on your own terms. Whether you’re visiting, new to the city, or a local eager to explore, Car-Free Athinas Street is your chance to see Athens from a fresh perspective.
The programme offers something for everyone: family-friendly cycling workshops, skateboarding sessions, live music, open-air cinema screenings, and interactive art projects. Kids can get creative with bicycle painting or learn road safety on specially designed bike circuits, while adults can unwind with DJ sets and late-night films like Blade Runner under the stars.
This isn’t just a one-off event — it’s a glimpse into Athens’ vision for a greener, more sustainable city where walking, cycling, and shared public life take centre stage. With easy access from Monastiraki metro, come prepared to stroll, skate, or simply soak up the atmosphere.
Join in, take part, and experience the vibrant spirit of Athens — all without a car in sight.
