The Olympia City Music Theatre "Maria Callas": Back in the Spotlight
After a quiet restoration of the stage and orchestral pit, one of Athens’s most beloved theatres is back in the spotlight. The Olympia City Music Theatre "Maria Callas" reopens with a vibrant new season of opera, ballet, jazz, symphonic concerts, and more, all set in a beautifully revived space in the heart of the city.
Located on Academias Street, Olympia offers a diverse and welcoming cultural experience, whether you're an opera enthusiast, a curious traveller, or simply looking for a unique evening out in Athens. Under the artistic direction of baritone Tasis Christogiannopoulos, the new season celebrates both classic masterpieces and contemporary voices, from Donizetti’s Elixir of Love and a fresh take on The Mikado, to jazz tributes, Greek chamber works, and bold new theatre productions.
The City of Athens Symphony Orchestra takes centre stage with a full programme of concerts, including tributes to legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, a festive Christmas Gala, and a New Year’s Eve concert to ring in 2026.
At the same time, Olympia’s foyer and lounge host smaller-scale performances including piano recitals and jazz duets to storytelling evenings inspired by lullabies from around the world.
Many performances feature accessibility services such as audio description, subtitles, and sign language interpretation, part of the theatre’s growing commitment to an inclusive cultural experience. It’s a welcoming space where music, memory, and Athenian hospitality come together. Tickets are already available for the new season.
