WIM MERTENS LIVE
Wim Mertens returns to Athens for two performances at the Ioannis Despotopoulos Hall of the Athens Conservatoire.
Since beginning his career as a musicologist and radio producer, Mertens has crafted a unique musical language over four decades and more than 70 albums. His early work, including landmark pieces like Struggle for Pleasure (1983) and Maximizing the Audience (1984), helped define a minimalist and lyrical style that blends classical, avant-garde, and pop elements.
His latest album, Ranges of Robustness (2024), explores the many facets of resilience with a contemporary symphonic approach that resonates with today’s challenges. Expect a programme combining new compositions with beloved classics, delivered through Mertens’s evolving solo and ensemble performances. This is an opportunity to experience one of contemporary music’s most thoughtful and enduring voices in an intimate setting.
