This holiday season, the City of Athens is weaving the threads of Christmas cheer together with all of us, as a citywide celebration unfolds across the city. Iconic squares and landmarks glow with energy-saving lights, while neighbourhood corners join the festive buzz. Expect a full line-up of free events for every age and taste, from Christmas-themed concerts and outdoor film nights to children’s workshops and much more.

One of Athens' most beloved Christmas traditions returns to Kotzia Square on Christmas Eve, inviting everyone to fill the sky with light and hopeful wishes.

The Night of Wishes is back, as the traditional biodegradable lanterns soar once again above the city, each one symbolising a cherished wish. Together, we’ll release our hopes into the winter sky, creating a truly magical and glowing moment in the heart of Athens. As our lanterns rise, they light up the night in a spectacular display of light and emotion, turning our shared wishes into a breathtaking spectacle under the stars.

From 5 pm, tune in as Athens 9.84 city radio broadcasts live from the square, setting the perfect festive mood with handpicked tunes from its radio producers. Come join the celebration, light up the night, and send your wishes into the sky because on this magical night, they just might come true!
