Allspice: Michael Rakowitz and Ancient Cultures
In Allspice, the first instalment of a trilogy presented by the Acropolis Museum and NEON—a cultural organisation dedicated to bringing contemporary art closer to the public—the breathtaking, historically charged work of Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz enters into dialogue with ancient artefacts from the Middle East and Southeast Mediterranean.
Rakowitz, known for his reconstructions of looted antiquities and explorations of exile, fractured civilisations, and shared cultural heritage, invites us into the exquisite setting of the Acropolis Museum for a powerful meditation on memory, loss, and repair.
A series of public programmes, including a lecture on May 13 and a conversation with the artist on May 17, further enrich the experience. Admission is free.
