Elina Belou: Life of a Sunflower
French ceramist Elina Belou presents her debut solo exhibition at the Bernier/Eliades Gallery, a quietly elegant exhibition in Thissio offering an intuitive exploration of form, vessel, and timeless material memory. Working between Athens and the south of France, Belou reinterprets ancestral ceramic traditions gathered across her global travels from Japan and Mexico to Finland and Greece.
Life of a Sunflower showcases a series of contemporary ceramic objects that evoke altars, offerings, and ancient rituals. Resisting over-conceptualization, Belou focuses on precision, proportion, and balance. Her works incorporate organic elements like branches, local soils, and flowers, blurring the line between utility and sculptural abstraction. Through layered glazes and natural tactile irregularities, she transforms vessels into living forms with necks, limbs, and curvilinear bodies that resonate with nature’s cycles.
