CineFIX: An Open-Air Cinema on EMST’s Rooftop Terrace
Each summer, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) transforms its rooftop terrace into CineFIX, one of the most spectacular outdoor cinemas in Athens. The name affectionately recalls the history of the landmark building, which once housed the famous Fix brewery. Boasting panoramic views of the Athenian skyline and the illuminated Acropolis, the open air space offers an ideal setting for a summer long series of moving image screenings running from May through September 2026.
CineFIX #HEAT explores the many faces of heat from scorching landscapes and restless nights to dangerous desire and simmering obsession.
Blending Hollywood classics with European arthouse cinema, the season presents films in which heat becomes a powerful force, driving emotion, passion and peril. It's the perfect excuse to spend an Athenian summer evening at the cinema.
The programme opens on Thursday 10 September (8.30 pm) with Alain Resnais's epic Hiroshima mon amour (1959), starring Emmanuelle Riva and Eiji Okada, followed on Thursday 17 September (8.30 pm) by Claude Chabrol's La Femme infidèle (1969).
All films are screened in French with Greek subtitles.
