CineFIX: An Open-Air Cinema on EMST’s Rooftop Terrace

Each summer, the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) transforms its rooftop terrace into CineFIX, one of the most spectacular outdoor cinemas in Athens. The name affectionately recalls the history of the landmark building, which once housed the famous Fix brewery. Boasting panoramic views of the Athenian skyline and the illuminated Acropolis, the open air space offers an ideal setting for a summer long series of moving image screenings running from May through September 2026.

CineFIX #HEAT explores the many faces of heat from scorching landscapes and restless nights to dangerous desire and simmering obsession.

Blending Hollywood classics with European arthouse cinema, the season presents films in which heat becomes a powerful force, driving emotion, passion and peril. It's the perfect excuse to spend an Athenian summer evening at the cinema.

The programme opens on Thursday 27 August (8.30 pm) with David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia (1962), starring Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif, followed on Thursday 3 September (9 pm) by Bernardo Bertolucci's The Sheltering Sky (1990), an evocative adaptation of Paul Bowles' novel set in the vast landscapes of the Sahara.

All films are screened in English with Greek subtitles.
