Bread from Ash
The Olympia City Music Theatre "Maria Callas" hosts a sophisticated evening of contemporary music this Holy Tuesday, as the Ergon Ensemble presents a programme of deep spiritual and cultural inquiry. Titled ‘Bread from Ash’, the performance centres on a dialogue between two significant modern works: John Tavener’s Kyrie Eleison and Osvaldo Golijov’s Ayre. It is a performance that bridges the gap between minimalist devotion and the complex, multicultural textures of the Mediterranean, featuring the exceptional voices of Savina Yannatou and Maria Kostraki.
Conducted by Markellos Chryssicos, the ensemble explores the intersections of faith and folklore through Tavener’s haunting clarity and the folk-inspired vibrancy of Golijov’s work. It is an ideal choice for those looking to experience the reflective atmosphere of the Holy Week through a modern musical lens. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre box office between 11 am and 6 pm, or via online booking platforms.
