Athens Open Air Film Festival 2026
Watching a movie under the stars is a sacred summer ritual in Athens, but this festival takes the tradition a step further by transforming the entire city into a giant pop-up cinema. Throughout July and August, the event sets up screens in archaeological parks, historical courtyards, and pedestrianised streets, screening a curated mix of restored classics, cult horrors, and Hollywood milestones. It is the ultimate insider recommendation for anyone wanting to experience the capital’s vibrant urban life alongside local cinephiles.
Because admission to all screenings is completely free, seats are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early with a cold drink is highly recommended. The upcoming schedule features standout locations, including a double-bill comedy night right on the iconic Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian path beneath the Acropolis, and a late-night marathon at Plato's Academy Park.
