Who says you can’t have it both ways? Athens' biggest and brightest contemporary art celebration – Art Athina – makes a double return this year with both a digital platform, Art Athina Virtual, and a live Art Athina Pop Up group exhibition that art fans can browse for free on the ground floor of the King George Hotel, in Syntagma Square.
Debuted last year as a pandemic pivot, Art Athina Virtual will open its digital doors from the first of November until the end of the month, to host highlights from 58 contributing international and Greek galleries. There’ll also be the chance to interact with influential artists and galleries through streamed content, videos and new media installations.
The live showcase in downtown Athens will run for a fortnight, from November 12-21. Each participating gallery or independent art space will display one chosen work and visitors can learn all about the piece and the artist by scanning the QR code to access the gallery’s digital booth.
If that doesn't quite scratch your art itch, put on your comfiest shoes and strike out on an Athens gallery crawl with our insider’s gallery guide, which we’ve helpfully broken down for you into neighbourhoods.
