Belle Époque Goulandris Foundation
How did the streets of turn-of-the-century Paris transform into a dynamic, open-air gallery? This autumn, the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation presents Belle Époque, a sweeping exhibition devoted to the artistic explosion and social shifts that defined fin-de-siècle France. Housed in the museum's sleek modern galleries in Pangrati, just steps from the Panathenaic Stadium, the Goulandris Museum is celebrated for housing one of the most important private collections of modern and contemporary art in Europe.
Curated by Marie Koutsomallis-Moreau and Marina Ferretti Bocquillon, the showcase brings together approximately 90 rare works that chart the rise of the printed poster. From Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s legendary Moulin Rouge prints and Alfons Mucha’s ornate Art Nouveau designs to Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen’s famous Tournée du Chat Noir, the exhibition offers a captivating look at a society in transition. Expect an enchanting exploration of cabaret culture, the birth of modern advertising, and widening access to public art. Afterwards, unwind with a glass of wine or espresso at the museum's light-filled, courtyard café.
