Margarita Athanasiou: Voices 2025
For a dose of autumn inspiration, wander down to EMΣΤ, Athens’ National Museum of Contemporary Art in the iconic former Fix Brewery. Tucked away in the basement screening theatre, Athenian artist Margarita Athanasiou returns to her hometown to present VOICES, a three-channel video essay fresh from its European premiere in Berlin.
Spanning 45 hypnotic minutes, VOICES dives into the curious realm of New Age spiritual channeling, tracking how mystical practices, emerging technology, and gender intertw. It's a deeply personal piece blending archival footage with intimate interviews with Athanasiou’s artist grandmother, treating the feminine body as an ancestral medium for communication.
An opportunity for sharp contemporary dialogue, it’s best followed by a coffee in nearby Koukaki to digest it all. Explore more contemporary exhibitions across the city.
