The Athens Big Band consistently brings world-class jazz talent to the city, and this collaboration with Reiner Witzel and Alex Sipiagin is a high-water mark for the season. Witzel, a virtuoso saxophonist, and Sipiagin, a trumpet star with a resume that includes the Mingus Big Band, bring a high-energy, lyrical program of original compositions. Curated by the band's artistic director Sami Amiris, the evening promises a level of technical precision and improvisational fire that you usually only find in the top jazz clubs of New York or London.
