European Heritage Days 2025: Bridging the Past with the Future
If you are in Athens for European Heritage Days 2025, it will be a weekend celebrating architecture’s role in shaping identity, memory, and modern life. This year’s theme, “Architectural Heritage – Bridging the Past with the Future,” invites you to explore Athens through a cultural lens — and it won’t cost a thing.
Enjoy free entry to all state archaeological sites, museums and monuments on both days, alongside a rich programme of guided tours, exhibitions, and educational workshops exploring everything from ancient stone masonry to contemporary urban design. Digital events and live-streamed content will also be available for remote visitors.
On Sunday 28 September, the Acropolis Museum offers free evening entry from 17:00–20:00, including two guided tours (in Greek and English). Spaces are limited, so arrive early to avoid missing out.
The City of Athens joins the festivities with free exhibitions and events at key municipal venue.
Expect pop-up concerts, walking tours, and family-friendly activities throughout the weekend. Some events may require pre-registration, and venues can get busy — plan ahead and check opening hours in advance.
Whether you’re rediscovering old favourites or uncovering hidden gems, this is your chance to experience Athens’ cultural heritage in a fresh, unforgettable way.
To make the most of your weekend, plan to arrive early at popular museums and landmarks, as free admission often draws large crowds. Be sure to check each venue’s opening hours in advance, since some may have reduced schedules. If you're interested in special tours or one-off events, check whether pre-registration is required and book ahead. And don’t forget to explore the city’s municipal cultural spaces, where you’ll find concerts, workshops, and guided walks happening throughout the weekend — a great way to experience Athens beyond the big-name attractions.
