World Premiere: Juliette Binoche in Le Serment d’Europe at Epidaurus
Legendary Juliette Binoche stars in the world premiere of Serment d’Europe (The Oath of Europe) at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Written by renowned Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad, this compelling new work delves into the trauma of a childhood tragedy, where a young girl unwittingly becomes part of a massacre committed by her own people. Mouawad’s writing, deeply inspired by ancient Greek tragedy, explores themes of guilt, identity, and the process of healing.
Part of the Contemporary Ancients series, this production marks Mouawad’s debut at Epidaurus. Known for his exploration of generational trauma and the human cost of conflict, he has won over Greek audiences before, recently with his work All of Us Birds, which was a major success at the National Theatre of Greece in Athens.
The premiere features a multilingual cast, with performances in French and both Greek and English surtitles. Don't miss this unforgettable summer highlight, running the first weekend of August at one of Europe’s most iconic theatrical venues.
