Girls in Film: Screenings and Panel Talk
GiF Greece is hosting its first ever event tailored for those who are navigating the tricky waters of film funding, in particular for those who come from underrepresented communities. The panel, held in English, will provide an in-depth insight into the Greek film funding landscape and is exclusively for filmmakers who identify as female, trans, non-binary, inter or agender (FLINTA).
During the open discussion, participants will share their knowledge, address burning issues and delve into the nitty-gritty of the funding process. From student film funding to combining ERT/Greek Film Centre funds, from choosing the right producer to post-publicity, a range of topics will be covered. They will also discuss the importance of making short films, and get an insight into the production process of the panellists, using their films as case studies.
Speaking of films, they have some intriguing screenings lined up:
- Holy Human Angel, Angeliki Aristomenopoulou, Trailer 2022; this film follows 20-year-old Konstantina, who uses an online avatar to express her queer identity and struggles against societal norms.
- A Family Affair, Angeliki Aristomenopoulou, Trailer 2014; which delves into the lives of the renowned Xylouris family, a musical dynasty from Crete.
- Escaping The Fragile Planet, Thanasis Tsimpinis, 2020; a poignant tale of a brief yet profound romantic encounter amidst an impending apocalypse.
- Sad Girl Weekend, Dimitris Tsakaleas and Lida Vartzioti, 2019; captures the bittersweet farewell of three best friends before parting ways for new adventures.
- Φῶς ἐκ Φωτός (Light of Light), Neritan Zinxhiria, 2023; intertwines a monk’s century-old photographic legacy with a filmmaker’s modern vision.
