Georgia Lale: True Blue
What if an exhibition could also feel like a classroom, a meeting place, and a shared moment of reflection? True Blue by Georgia Lale transforms the City of Athens Arts Centre into exactly that. Created around International Women’s Day, the exhibition and accompanying festival invite visitors to reflect on the contemporary female experience through art, dialogue and collective participation.
The title plays on two meanings of blue. One evokes the familiar colours of Greece, sea and sky. The other speaks to the emotional weight the word can carry. Inside the exhibition, visitors encounter three interconnected environments: a classroom space hosting talks and workshops about self worth, healthy relationships and equality; a striking map of Greece made from bedsheets donated by women who have slept and dreamed on them; and an interactive installation where visitors move through a maze of hanging sheets, discovering hidden messages along the way.
Alongside the exhibition, a three day festival from 6 to 8 March brings together organisations working on women’s health, rights and social support, with talks, workshops and discussions designed to encourage awareness and dialogue. Music from a string quartet of the Athens Municipality Symphony Orchestra closes the programme on International Women’s Day.
