My Fierce Ignorant Step
Award-winning choreographer Christos Papadopoulos presents the Athens premiere of his latest work, inspired by the powerful Axion Esti. This piece taps into a shared Greek heritage while resonating universally, offering a profound celebration of human connection, memory, and the joy of life.
Axion Esti is a cantata by Mikis Theodorakis (composer) and Odysseas Elytis (poet), first performed in 1964. Drawing from Greek history, faith, and resilience, it reflects themes of hope, national pride, and the struggles of the Greek people. The title, meaning “Worthy It Is,” references a sacred hymn and symbolises Greece’s enduring spirit. Considered one of Theodorakis’ most important works, it remains a powerful expression of Greek identity.
Fresh from receiving the prestigious Rose International Dance Prize from London’s Sadler’s Wells, Papadopoulos returns with a piece that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Ten performers bring this vision to life through sound and movement, creating an atmosphere that builds toward unity, energy, and emotional release.
