Detroit, 1980s. Thumping, repeating, electronic sounds come from an ordinary basement. It sounds like "a complete mistake ... like George Clinton and Kraftwerk caught in an elevator, with only a sequencer to keep them company." It's Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, aka the Belleville Three, the originators of the Detroit techno scene. The elevator quote belongs to May, when asked to describe his music early on. The 56-year-old pioneer is coming to Athens for a DJ set that no techno-head or groove enthusiast should miss.
