Belly of the Fish by Valentina Bartolini
Valentina Bartolini’s Belly of the Fish is a solo exhibition at Callirrhoë that invites visitors to explore the interior landscape of the imagination. Taking its cue from proto-surrealist approaches and imagery such as the biblical story of Jonah in the belly of the whale, the exhibition uses biomorphic shapes and intuitive forms to shift attention from the external world to the unconscious and the transformative space within.
Through subtle, surreal imagery and an emphasis on introspection, Bartolini’s work encourages close observation and reflection. The gallery’s intimate setting provides a contemplative environment in which to encounter the artist’s thoughtful visual language, where familiar forms seem to emerge and dissolve simultaneously.
