AEF2026: The Oranges of Palaia Epidaurus
Each summer, the Athens Epidaurus Festival returns to the enchanting Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, an idyllic venue where ancient history and contemporary artistic expression meet in rare harmony. Smaller and more intimate than its monumental counterpart, the theatre offers audiences a uniquely immersive experience, where music, theatre, and storytelling unfold against the rhythms of the natural landscape.
For decades, the Little Theatre has served as a vital space for experimentation and poetic dialogue within the Festival’s programme, welcoming works that bridge mythology, memory, music, and modern Greek creation.
Rooted in the landscapes, aromas, and oral histories of the region, The Oranges of Palaia Epidaurus becomes both a tribute to place and a meditation on memory, inheritance, and belonging. Through music and storytelling, the performance evokes the sensory world of the Peloponnese, its groves and the lives shaped around them.
Within the intimate atmosphere of the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, the production unfolds as a warm and deeply local experience, blurring the boundaries between performance and remembrance while celebrating the enduring cultural spirit of the area.
