AEF2026: John Legend, Evening of Songs & Stories
This June marks a poignant milestone in Athenian venue history. Before the legendary Odeon of Herodes Atticus falls silent for a multi-year restoration, the Athens Epidaurus Festival presents the “Farewell Festivities”, a final opportunity to experience performances beneath the stars before this ancient stone theatre closes for its essential transformation.
The legacy of two Roman visionaries, Emperor Hadrian and Herodes Atticus, forever shaped the architectural and cultural identity of Athens. Together, their vision gave rise to landmarks that continue to define the city today, including the Odeon on the southern slope of the Acropolis — one of the world’s most extraordinary settings for live music under the Athenian sky.
As part of these farewell celebrations, John Legend arrives in Greece for the very first time with An Evening of Songs & Stories, an intimate retrospective from one of the defining voices of contemporary R&B and soul. In what will become the penultimate cultural event before the Odeon closes for restoration, the EGOT-winning artist takes the stage alone at the piano, revisiting the songs and personal stories that have shaped his extraordinary career. From global hits including All of Me and Ordinary People to reflections on a life lived through music, the evening promises a rare encounter between artist, audience, and one of Athens’ most mythic stages.
