38th Panorama of European Cinema

For almost four decades, the Panorama of European Cinema has been a cornerstone of Athens’ cultural scene, celebrating both European and Greek film, presenting thought-provoking thematic tributes, and honouring distinguished international and Greek filmmakers.

This November, Athens comes alive with cinema as the 38th Panorama of European Cinema returns for a week-long celebration of the very best in European and Greek film. Spread across three iconic city cinemas, the festival offers a rich programme of screenings, tributes, and special events designed to delight both dedicated cinephiles and casual visitors alike.

This year, the festival shines a spotlight on the cinema of the Weimar Republic (1919–1933), featuring nine landmark films from Germany’s golden age of silent and early sound cinema, inspired by Siegfried Kracauer’s from Caligari to Hitler. The festival also celebrates international cinema with awards for documentarian Nick Broomfield and filmmaker Jeanine Meerapfel, while Greek editor Ioanna Spiliopoulou and cinematographer Andreas Sinanos receive lifetime achievement recognition.

With strong collaborations with the Goethe-Institut and the French Institute, the Panorama of European Cinema is a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and the power of storytelling.
