Ourania Gassiou & Camerata: Händel Organ Concertos
While the grand organ of the Christos Lambrakis Hall is the Megaron’s most famous resident, this midday concert shifts the focus to its more intimate "sibling." The portable pipe organ, specifically designed for the delicate textures of early music, takes centre stage in the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall for a programme dedicated to the Baroque mastery of Georg Friedrich Händel. It is a chance to hear the instrument at close range, revealing a refined, conversational side of the organ that is often overshadowed by its symphonic counterparts.
Accompanied by the Camerata, Megaron’s resident organist Ourania Gassiou performs a selection of Händel’s landmark works, including pieces from his Opus 4 and the evocative "The Cuckoo and the Nightingale." The performance highlights the technical versatility of the portable instrument, bridging the gap between the monumental traditions of the past and the growing contemporary interest in early music within the city.
