Niki Kanagini: An Ode to Things Retrospective
If you want to get to know a major voice of post war Greek art beyond the usual names, this retrospective at The National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) is a strong place to begin. It revisits four decades of Niki Kanagini’s practice, moving from her large scale tapestries to immersive installations that invite you to think about objects, language, and everyday life in a new way. The exhibition is built as a holistic experience, the kind you can take slowly, noticing how writing becomes image, how materials carry memory, and how the personal becomes social.
Its title comes from Pablo Neruda’s poem An Ode to Things, a clue to Kanagini’s focus on the small worlds of ordinary objects and what they hold: time, identity, and lived experience. Alongside landmark works, the show also presents, for the first time, key pieces from a promised gift by the artist’s family to EMST.
