1945: The End of the War
Marking eighty years since the end of the Second World War, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy presents 1945: The End of the War, a major historical exhibition that examines one of the most decisive years in modern history. Drawing on extensive research in Greek and international archives, public institutions and private collections, the exhibition explores the dramatic turning points that shaped the post-war world.
Through rare photographic material shown in Greece for the first time and original historical documents, the exhibition traces the final months of the conflict and the fragile emergence of a new global order. Key moments include the liberation of concentration camps, the fall of Berlin, the surrender of Nazi Germany, the war in the Pacific, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Yalta and Potsdam conferences, the founding of the United Nations and the Nuremberg Trials. Together, they form a powerful narrative that confronts visitors with both devastation and hope, highlighting why 1945 remains profoundly relevant today.
