Swan Lake at the Greek National Opera
The Ballet of the Greek National Opera returns to the Stavros Niarchos Hall with Swan Lake, presented in a distinctive reinterpretation by Konstantinos Rigos. Revisiting the classical foundations laid by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, the Director of the GNO Ballet reshapes Tchaikovsky’s iconic work through a contemporary lens, proposing a Swan Lake that speaks directly to the anxieties and inner tensions of our time.
Rigos places Prince Siegfried at the centre of a psychological landscape, where the white and black swans function as projections of the same fractured self. Set in a post-destruction world marked by stark, symbolic imagery, the choreography moves fluidly between classical, neoclassical, and contemporary idioms. The familiar lake scenes unfold as ritual, while shifts in movement and atmosphere reveal a narrative driven by obsession, vulnerability, and the pull between innocence and self-destruction.
Selected performances on 27 and 28 March 2026 will be fully accessible, offering audio description, captions, Greek Sign Language interpretation, and designated seating, ensuring an inclusive experience for all audiences.
