The City of Athens and the Athens - Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association launch new label to award participation in the City’s Biowaste Collection Program

Aiming to create a more sustainable city for both residents and visitors, the City of Athens’ department of Cleanliness & Recycling and the Athens - Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association have launched a special label recognizing the commitment of local hotels to reduce biowaste.

The label awards partner-hotels of the City’s Biowaste Collection Program that foresees the separation and collection of biowaste with the use of the brown bins provided by the City of Athens. Since its launch in 2020, the program has been adopted by a total of 54 hotels. Other enterprises participating in the City of Athens’ Biowaste Collection Program include super markets, shops, open-air markets, hospitals and more.

The City of Athens supports sustainable tourism practices that enable the city to reach the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN by 2030. The City is also a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
