The European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS), in collaboration with the Hellenic Paediatric Neurology Association organize the 13th European Paediatric Neurology Society Congress, in September 17-21 at Megaron Athens International Conference Centre, with “Paediatric Neurology and Rare Diseases: Genetics & Environment, Progression & Transition” as its theme.

The biannual EPNS Congress this year takes place in Athens, It coincides with 2019 being the European Year for Rare Diseases. The President of the Organizing and Scientific Faculty of the Congress is Prof. Dimitrios I. Zafeiriou, Professor of Child Neurology & Developmental Paediatrics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The cure, prognosis and results of rare diseases, as well as their progress during adolescence and adulthood, are important issues and challenges for patients and their families as well as the entire medical community (physicians, pharmaceutical companies, health system). The care of children with rare neurological diseases require the collaboration of several specialties apart from pediatricians and neurologists, so that the optimal therapeutic choices are made, aiming at a better life quality.

The scientific program contains lectures from prominent scientists of the field, seminars and workshops, oral and poster presentations. New developments in pediatric neurology will be presented and a number of topics will be discussed, namely emergency & critical care neurology, rare neurogenetic and neurometabolic conditions, clinical trials, sleep, epilepsy, movement disorders, mental illness, autism and more.

Furthermore, on September 16-17 the 3rd EPNS International Advances in Neuromodulation in Children Symposium will be held.
This is a separate meeting organized by Dr. Jean-Pierre Lin, consultant paediatric neurologist (Evelina London Children’s Hospital, UK) that takes place under EPNS’ auspices right before the congress. The rapidly expanding field of neurophysiology, pathophysiology as well as neuromodulation treatment for movement disorders and epilepsy are the Symposium’s main topics.
