Convin : Occupational Therapy at the Forefront of Science and Society.

With renewed momentum, the 8th Panhellenic Occupational Therapy Congress returns from May 16 to 18, 2025, at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, organized by the Panhellenic Association of Occupational Therapists (PAOT). This year’s theme, “Occupational Therapy in a Changing World: Participation, Inclusion, and Quality of Life,” highlights the profession’s dynamic role in addressing complex health and social care needs, particularly in the context of population aging, developmental disorders, and mental health.

International Keynote Speakers
Two leading figures in global occupational therapy will honor the Congress with keynote speeches:

Samantha Shann, President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), will analyze global strategies for promoting the profession and the contribution of occupational therapy to the sustainability of healthcare systems. With collaborations across organizations such as the World Health Organization and the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals, her presence is a prestigious milestone for the country.

Anu Söderström, President of the Council of Occupational Therapists for the European Countries (COTEC), will present the challenges and developments in occupational therapy in Europe, with emphasis on protecting children and families. Her experience in both clinical and social sectors, as well as in supervising professionals, offers invaluable insights to the community.

Their participation reinforces the international scope of the Congress and its connection to current scientific and professional developments.

A Multilayered Scientific Program
The program includes oral and poster presentations, workshops, round tables, and keynote speeches with the participation of esteemed Greek and international experts. Topics include community-based occupational therapy, neurodiversity and autism, innovative rehabilitation approaches, autonomy after stroke, the engagement of older adults in daily life, the use of digital tools in clinical practice, and the role of occupational therapists in mental health and education. Noteworthy sessions include “The Contribution of Occupation to People with Mental Health Disorders” and “From Play to Advocacy: Theatrical Play as Social Action.”

Why Occupational Therapy Matters Today
In a world where chronic conditions, mental health, and social inequalities are increasingly in focus, occupational therapy plays a vital role in rehabilitation, inclusion, and empowerment. According to WFOT, over 633,000 occupational therapists worldwide operate in more than 100 countries, supporting child development, rehabilitation, mental health, aging, and disability—fostering participation and quality of life. In Greece, the profession continues to grow steadily, with a strengthened presence in hospitals, schools, and community services.

This scientific event is a socially significant intervention, highlighting the role of occupational therapists as key contributors to health, education, and social cohesion.
