NJV Athens Plaza shares its first Corporate Responsibility Report

2019 has been a significant year for the NJV Athens Plaza regarding the contribution to Corporate Responsibility, since the Hotel has proceeded to the publication of its first CR Report for the year 2018. The CR Report records systematically the corporate responsibility activities implemented within the year of reference and also their impact on society, environment, human resources and culture.

NJV Athens Plaza has undertaken innovative activities in order to improve its social and environmental performance. The 2018 CR Report constitutes the communication tool of the Sustainability path of the Hotel towards its stakeholders and the general public as well.

For the NJV Athens Plaza, the commitment is to continuously acknowledge, through business ethics and social diligence, Corporate Responsibility in accordance with the principles of sustainability for the society and the environment. Corporate Responsibility means achieving financial results, paying increasingly close attention to social and environmental responsibility.

ETHOS

The officially regulated, since 2016, logo of NJV’s Corporate Responsibility activities "ETHOS: Caring-Supporting-Realizing", highlights the care for the sustainability of the society and the environment, the support of the local community and the realization of the goals set for sustainable development.

In the framework of this initiative, NJV Athens Plaza:

  • implements social activity
  • commits towards society and stakeholders for the improvement of services
  • aims to increase productivity and performance by achieving social and environmental goals
  • cooperates with local producers to promote local products
  • certifies the compliance of the supply chain with international principles and
  • integrates into its policy the international principles of CR and sustainability

SUSTAINABILITY

NJV Athens Plaza is the most highly rated developed City Hotel in Athens related to sustainability. This is proved by the fact that it is the only Hotel member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) in Europe. This fact has reaffirmed the Hotel's continued commitment to protecting and preserving natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism's contribution to poverty reduction.

The results:

  • Energy saving through LED lighting, cooling system upgrade, systematic DHW equipment maintenance
  • HR training in energy saving
  • Informing guests about energy saving issues
  • Creation of a Special Committee on Sustainability, GREEN TEAM
  • Management of sustainability data, including energy consumption through the adoption/ certification of the EARTHCHECK Evaluate standard
  • Energy cost reduction of 7.33% per night, with corresponding increase in overnight stays
  • Reduction of non-recyclable waste production to 7.1 liters/ night
  • Achievement of top minimum energy consumption compared to similar housing of 49.9 kWh/ night (average reference 93.3 kWh/ night)
  • Achievement of top minimum reduction of CO2 production at 23.9 kg/ night (average reference 27.7 kg/ night)

Sustainability for the NJV Athens Plaza, is not just a question of carbon footprint, but also an infinite field of possibilities that we must constantly explore. Today, Corporate Responsibility activities and strategies have been incorporated into the DNA of NJV Athens Plaza's business and human resources and all practices that we follow are based on them.

SOCIETY

Regarding social activity, NJV Athens Plaza's actions focus not only on meeting the needs of vulnerable groups of the population, but also on contributing to the social development, such as education and culture.

Particularly,

  • Offering daily meals to families in financial distress and to Social Institutions of Athens,
  • Collecting goods such as clothes, furniture etc., in order to satisfy the needs of people in need, through certified NGOs,
  • Participating in sport events with a social purpose,
  • Collaborating with local responsible suppliers, encouraging them to demonstrate and promote their products and services,
  • Organizing a blood donation at the “Athens Central Clinic”, where the hotel's blood bank is maintained,
  • Free Spanish and Italian language courses to employees,
  • Supporting the Greek Culture through cultural packages for archaeological sites and the Acropolis Museum and also large-scale informational exhibitions,
  • Supporting the circular economy as a healthy model of sustainable development
