This is Athens City Festival 2026: Own the City This May
Τhis is Athens City Festival returns to reclaim the city for all of us, shifting the focus from the usual landmarks to the living pulse of our neighbourhoods. With a month-long programme from 1–31 May featuring over 300 free events, the festival is curated to feel 100% Athenian.
From the green spaces of Plato’s Academy to the residential charm of Kypriadou, and everywhere in between, the fifth edition transforms quiet squares and hidden courtyards into hubs of “locally sourced” fun. This is a truly open celebration for everyone, inviting every visitor and expat to find their own place in the city’s evolving story.
From high-profile performances—most notably the atmospheric jungle beats of drum and bass pioneer LTJ Bukem—to the Athens Pride party, bringing a surge of visibility and inclusive celebration to the streets around Syntagma and Gazi, the line-up invites you to dive deeper into Athenian life.
Curated urban walks and guided visits (in Greek) peel back the layers of the city’s history, alongside contemporary art exhibitions in central and neighbourhood galleries. For those looking to stay active, fitness sessions in city parks offer a breath of fresh air, while “cinema under the stars” screenings turn the city into a nostalgic open-air theatre. Whether you’re bringing the family to a daytime square takeover, stumbling upon a pop-up performance in a hidden alleyway, or joining a late-night street party, the festival belongs to all of you.
The action is implemented within the framework of the Act "Actions to promote, enhance and promote tourism in the Municipality of Athens" / Sub-project 1, which is included in the "Attica 2021-2027" Program, MIS 6018475, and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
