Barbara Kruger: Untitled (Pride and Contempt)
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre hosts the first solo exhibition in Greece by Barbara Kruger, unfolding across the outdoor public spaces of the SNFCC. Installed along the Canal, the exhibition transforms everyday movement through the park into an encounter with large scale, site specific works that speak directly to the viewer. A striking highlight is a monumental 90 metre wall mural on the building of the National Library of Greece, turning architecture into a carrier of language and meaning.
Known for her bold use of text and graphic intensity, Kruger has spent more than five decades examining power, identity, gender, consumer culture and responsibility. For this exhibition, her statements appear for the first time in Greek, addressing truth, authority and critical thinking within today’s European context. Placed in open public space, the works invite reflection on who speaks, who listens and how power circulates in society, while remaining accessible to all visitors, whether passing through or deliberately exploring.
