How to Shoot a Ghost: Charlie Kaufman
Following its world premiere in Venice, Charlie Kaufman’s new short film How to Shoot a Ghost arrives in Athens for its first screening in Greece, hosted at Onassis Stegi on 10 December. Filmed in the streets, corners and contrasts of the city, the film blends memory, street photography and archival fragments to shape a haunting portrait of Athens as a space where past and present coexist.
The story follows two newly dead ghosts who wander the city together. Both were outsiders in life, one a queer Lebanese translator, the other a half Irish photographer, and in their drifting through Athens they find a quiet understanding of love, loss and the traces we leave behind. Kaufman approaches mortality with a poetic, reflective gaze, working once again with writer Eva H.D. in a continuation of their diptych that began with Jackals & Fireflies.
After the screening, Kaufman joins Eva H.D., cinematographer Michał Dymek and actor Josef Akiki for a conversation moderated by Afroditi Panagiotakou. The discussion will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation in Greek and Greek Sign Language.
