Nikos Karathanos: Epos (working title)
Director Nikos Karathanos possesses an unmatched ability to crack open grand national myths and turn them into deeply communal, raucous, and tearful celebrations of human frailty. Having already explored universal themes at Onassis Stegi through his acclaimed productions of The Birds and Prometheus, Karathanos returns with Epos (working title), examining the weight of epic narrative through a distinctly contemporary Greek lens.
Rejecting stuffy heroic posturing, Karathanos gathers an extraordinary ensemble cast to explore what it means to be ordinary in the shadow of giants, legends, and impossible collective expectations. The staging moves between uninhibited musical revelry, slapstick wit, and sudden, heartbreaking emotional clarity. It does not treat the epic tradition as a museum piece to be worshipped from a distance; it treats it as a living, messy family feast where history, heartbreak, and joy share the same loud table.
