I Have Never Travelled to Australia by Alexandros Voulgaris
Alexandros Voulgaris, also known as The Boy, transforms the Onassis Stegi into a fragmented, dreamlike landscape with I Have Never Travelled to Australia, an immersive project that unfolds across stages, corridors, and exhibition spaces. Blending concert, performance, cinema, and installation, the work invents an Australia that exists not as a destination, but as a state of mind. A place shaped by imagined memories, cinematic echoes, and unresolved journeys.
Over three days, audiences move through a multilayered experience that includes a live eco horror concert on the Main Stage, film screenings and retrospectives of Australian New Wave cinema, a new feature film, photographic works, and installations that spill into foyers and passageways. Guided by a loose narrative thread and recurring collaborators, the project invites visitors to drift between sound, image, and story, encountering a fictional country that reflects back something unsettlingly familiar. This Australia is not geographic but emotional, a mirror that distorts, seduces, and lingers.
