George Drivas: Symphony 37. Portrait of an Algorithm at Megaron
George Drivas presents Symphony 37. Portrait of an Algorithm, a walking performance and installation unfolding across hidden, non public areas of the Megaron. Conceived as a live dialogue between human creativity and artificial intelligence, the work leads audiences through basements, corridors, storage spaces and rehearsal rooms, combining sound, digital text, video and performance into a fragmented yet carefully choreographed journey.
At the heart of the project lies a deliberate reversal of roles. Instead of asking artificial intelligence to create music, Drivas follows detailed instructions generated by AI, allowing it to guide the composition, orchestration and live performance of the work. As the action progresses from raw, inaccessible spaces to rehearsal rooms, the symphony develops in parallel with a reflection on how algorithms operate and how humans respond to them.
Performed live by eight musicians under the musical direction of composer Melina Paxinou, Symphony 37 explores authorship, collaboration and the post human condition. Its title references the legendary Move 37 from the AlphaGo match, a moment that challenged human intuition and reshaped perceptions of machine intelligence. The experience is immersive, thoughtful and quietly unsettling, offering a rare glimpse into how artistic creation may evolve when human and algorithmic logics intersect.
