Romeo Castellucci: FAUST
One of Stegi’s recurring artistic collaborators, Italian director Romeo Castellucci has never been interested in politely reciting classic plays. In his staging of FAUST, he takes the familiar story of the man who sells his soul to the devil and turns it into a full-scale assault on the senses, digging into the very modern impulse to conquer nature, amass endless knowledge, and cheat death.
You will not find dusty period costumes or polite line readings here. Castellucci builds massive, imposing sets paired with stark lighting and thunderous sound design that hits you right in the chest. It functions more like a living, breathing art installation than a conventional drama, forcing the audience to reckon with our endless hunger for control and technological progress. It is intense, uncompromising theatre designed for audiences who want a show with real visual and emotional bite.
