Christmas with Mozart on Period Instruments
Celebrate the holiday season with a festive classical performance as the Camerata Friends of Music Orchestra takes the stage at The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron). Conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos, the renowned ensemble performs on authentic period instruments, offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear Mozart’s music as it originally sounded during the 18th century. Joining the orchestra are internationally acclaimed soprano Julia Lezhneva and virtuoso clarinetist Spyros Mourikis.
The evening’s programme highlights three distinct chapters of Mozart's life and artistic evolution. The concert opens with the joyous and virtuosic sacred motet Exsultate, jubilate, a holiday favorite filled with infectious Italianate lyricism. It continues with the dramatic Prague Symphony, a brilliant tribute to the city that embraced his genius, and culminates in the poignant Clarinet Concerto in A major, Mozart’s final completed instrumental work written shortly before his death.
