The Cleveland Orchestra: Franz Welser-Möst
One of the world’s finest symphonic ensembles arrives in the capital as The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) hosts The Cleveland Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Marking the 25th and final season of their historic collaboration, this performance brings the ensemble's legendary "Cleveland Sound" to Christos Lambrakis Hall, celebrated worldwide for its chamber-like transparency, clarity, and precision.
The carefully chosen programme opens with Franz Liszt’s symphonic poem Orpheus, followed by Bohuslav Martinů’s Symphony No. 2, a piece composed in 1943 specifically for Cleveland’s Czech community and premiered by the orchestra itself. The evening culminates in Johannes Brahms’s radiant Symphony No. 2, a work inspired by the idyllic Austrian countryside that captures the serene warmth of summer on the shores of Lake Wörthersee.
