Quatuor Modigliani

Celebrating two centuries since the composer's death, The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) launches its ambitious "Beethoven 200" cycle with a performance by French string quartet Quatuor Modigliani. Having spent recent years recording the complete cycle of Beethoven’s 16 string quartets, the ensemble takes to the stage of the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall to chart the master's radical artistic journey. The carefully curated programme spans from the dramatic urgency of String Quartet No. 6 (La Malinconia), an early masterpiece hinting at his future audacity, to the profound introspection of String Quartet No. 16, his final completed quartet.

Bridging classical heritage with contemporary creation, the evening also features Czech composer Kryštof Mařatka's Amedea: visage de jeune fille. Written specifically for Quatuor Modigliani and inspired by Amedeo Modigliani’s portraiture, the work sparks a fertile dialogue between fine art and chamber music. It promises a captivating evening for chamber music purists looking to experience world-class acoustics in the heart of the city.
