AEF2026: Hecuba
This June marks a poignant milestone in Athenian venue history. Before the legendary Odeon of Herodes Atticus falls silent for a multi-year restoration, the Athens Epidaurus Festival presents the “Farewell Festivities”. It is the last chance to experience performances under the stars before this ancient stone shell is carefully closed for its essential makeover.
The legacy of Hadrian and Herodes Atticus lives on through these historic stages, which remain among the most powerful spaces in Athens for storytelling and performance.
Euripides’ Hecuba is reimagined in a striking production by Stathis Livathinos, focusing on the devastating human cost of war and the fragile boundary between grief and vengeance.
