Konstantinos Rigos’ Golden Age at the Greek National Opera
Konstantinos Rigos returns to the Stavros Niarchos Hall with Golden Age, a high energy dance work that reads as both a manifesto and a celebration. Originally premiered in 2025 and now revived for May 2026, the production brings together club culture, theatrical excess, and contemporary ballet, transforming the GNO stage into a pulsating space where nostalgia and irony collide. Drawing on Rigos’ long journey through Greek and international dance and theatre, Golden Age reflects on the present moment while imagining what comes next.
Set to an eclectic musical landscape curated by Rigos and composed by long time collaborator Ted Regklis, the performance unfolds like a live mixtape. Electronic rhythms, reworked operatic fragments, Greek songs, and references from rock and jazz culture are paired with striking visuals, vertical screens, and a monumental chandelier installation. Sixteen dancers move between precision and abandon, forming shifting collectives and intimate encounters that mirror the tension between discipline and freedom. The work includes moments of nudity, loud music, and strobe lighting, and is recommended for audiences aged twelve and over.
