The reconstruction of Syggrou Avenue is among the most important renovations in the coming years. The new Syggrou Avenue will become vehicle and pedestrian friendly, as well as assemble the metropolitan cultural life in the 21st century. Various cultural activities have been developed in recent years on both sides of the avenue that will expand further over the next few years and will be linked dynamically with the Panteion University, theatres, hotels, companies, etc.
From Fix Metro Station where the National Museum of Contemporary Art is about to open its doors, the Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens’ new gem, and the Planetarium of Eugenides Foundation, to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the new cultural, educational and recreational complex under construction, Syggrou Avenue will assume an important role; a commercial, business and cultural hub linking the city centre with the sea.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) will include new facilities for the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, as well as the 175.000m² Stavros Niarchos Park on the shore of Faliro Bay in southern Athens open to all kinds of exploration by visitors walking through the Park and special events to be organised on the premises. The park will host 1,440 trees (aged between 10 and 80 years), which have already been selected and adapted to the local climate of Attica, and 300,000 shrubs will be planted. These outdoor spaces will offer a large-scale area for various activities, where people of all ages will feel comfortable and welcome.
