The Greek Month in London at EMST
The Greek Month in London: 50 Years On is an exhibition that does exactly what its title suggests. It looks back at a defining moment, fifty years ago, when Greece was emerging from a violent dictatorship that had cut it off from the international avant-gardes. Five decades after the 1975 “Greek Month” in London, a series of events which brought Greek contemporary art to major venues such as the ICA, this exhibition revisits how Greek artists and curators helped reshape the country’s creative identity.
Visitors can explore rare archive material, photographs, and artworks by leading figures such as Jannis Kounellis, Takis, and Chryssa. Together, these works highlight the first major dialogue between Greek contemporary art and the international scene, offering a fascinating look at the curatorial vision that connected Greece’s modern creativity with its deep cultural roots.
