Maria Callas Tribute at Olympia Municipal Music Theatre
"I lived for art; I lived for love", sings Maria Callas in Tosca. The soprano with the unforgettable voice and legendary stage presence has, with her artistry and her passionate life, reinvented the image of the true opera diva. Οn the occasion of the 100th anniversary of her birth, the Symphonic Orchestra and the Choir of the Municipality of Athens pay tribute to the Greek-American soprano, who was hailed as La Divina during her lifetime.
The first tribute concert in January focuses on works by Verdi, Gluck, Cherubini, Mascani, Mozart, Bellini, Beethoven, Donichetti, Puccini, and Rossini. Three performers take the stage at the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre Maria Callas under the direction of Sebastiano Rolli.
The second tribute concert takes place in April, around Easter time. The programme this time focuses on some of the religious music pieces that the diva graced with her voice. Five performers sing excerpts from works by W. A. Mozart, G. B. Pergolesi, A. Stradella, as well as the masterpiece "Stabat Mater" by Gioachino Rossini.
