Sea Garden at EMST
Alongside its major and much-discussed thematic exhibitions that have propelled EMST into becoming one of the most dynamic art venues in Athens, the museum also dedicates space to emerging curators and temporary shows.
One such exhibition is Sea Garden, a new group show curated by two young women and inspired by Sea Garden (1916), the poetry collection by American poet H.D. Curated by Danai Giannoglou and Kyveli Mavrokordopoulou, the exhibition is the winning proposal from an open call for curatorial projects, a museum initiative designed to support curatorial research.
Sea Garden explores the meeting point between land and sea, where nature and human activity continually reshape one another. Expect artworks that engage with ideas of water and dryness, reflection and heat, growth and destruction.
Featuring works by Claude Cahun, Dora Economou, Catriona Gallagher, Ana Mendieta, Margaret Raspé, and Athena Tacha, the exhibition brings together both existing and new pieces that capture the fragile balance of today’s landscapes.
The show is accompanied by the public programme I Even Lost My Shadow, featuring contributions from with talks and contributions from artists and researchers.
